LOT 2012
A late Victorian oak commemorative Wainscot style armchair of naval interest, the panel back inscribed 'Foudroyant Wrecked 1897' within a central shield supported by naval regalia, the crown and ropetwist top rail inscribed 'England Expects Every Man To Do His Duty' above a small reserve inscribed 'Nelson', the solid panel seat flanked by scroll arms, on turned and block legs, height approx 134cm, width approx 64cm. Note: HMS Foudroyant was launched at Plymouth in 1798 and served as Nelson's flagship in the Mediterranean in 1799. She was destroyed by a storm on 28th November 1897 at Blackpool.
