A late Victorian leather cased picnic set with plated contents by Hukin & Heath, the rectangular tan leather case with hinge lid, inscribed 'Given to Prince A. de Chimay by A. Yates. Bishop Sutton', the interior detailed 'Clark. 20. Old Bond Street', fitted with a plated picnic set, comprising two cut glass rectangular decanters with screw lids, two rectangular sandwich boxes, two telescopic beakers, two three-section cylindrical condiment sets, a rectangular box and cover, two rectangular side plates, all engraved 'Cloister', and two rectangular trays with presentation inscription 'Grand National 1893, Cloister, 12st 7lbs time 9 min. 422/5 sec won in a canter by 40 lengths beating all record', length of case approx 33.7cm. Note: Cloister was the winner of the Aintree Grand National Steeplechase in 1893 and was regarded at the time as one of the best steeplechasers of all time.
