A late 19th/early 20th Century mahogany cased bracket timepiece with brass eight day single fusee movement, the silvered square dial possibly designed by Lewis Foreman Day with an engraved design of leaves surrounding Arabic numerals and inscribed 'Howell & James Ltd, to the Queen, London', the case with stepped surmount and brass carry handle above pierced brass fret panels, on a plinth base and brass bracket feet, height approx 48cm, with pendulum. Note: Lewis Foreman Day (1845-1910) was a British decorative artist and industrial designer, most famous for his wallpaper designs and calligraphy. He was an active member of the Arts and Crafts Exhibition Society and one time master of the Art Workers Guild, which he helped to found. His clock designs for Howell and James are recognised as his signature pieces of furniture design.
