A brass ship's bell, engraved 'A 44 1915', diameter approx 20cm, with chain link suspension and heavy steel clanger with rope tassel, together with a German cap tally, marked 'Schlachtschiff Scharnhorst'. Note: a letter from the Ministry of Defence accompanies the lot, dated 20 September 1972, stating that A 44 was a German A2 class torpedoboat attached to the Flanders flotilla in Spring 1917 and that she was subsequently handed over to the British authorities in March 1920 and broken up in 1922.
