A Chinese American armorial export porcelain footed dish, late 18th/early 19th Century, the centre finely painted with the arms of Johnston impaling Stewart above a banner inscribed 'Nunquam Non Paratus', within a knotched rim decorated with bands of sepia ribbons, length approx 40.4cm. Footnote: the Stewart family recorded as collectors of customs, New London (Connecticut) in the late 1700s; the Johnstons recorded in Maryland and New York in the late 1700s.
