LOT 1066
A Chinese Daoist midnight blue silk jacket, late 19th/early 20th Century, the front, shoulders and back worked in gilt thread with two yin-yang roundels surrounded by bagua (the eight trigrams), the sky blue borders worked in gilt and blue thread with dragon, tiger and prunus, length approx 101cm. Provenance: the property of a descendant of Doctor Duncan Main. Doctor Duncan Main was a Scottish medical missionary who lived and worked in Hangzhou from 1881 to 1926. He and his wife, Florence, are credited with the establishment of at least thirty medical and welfare institutions in Hangzhou by the time they left in 1926.
