RUDDER, Samuel. A New History of Gloucestershire. Cirencester: printed by Samuel Rudder, 1779. 2 vols. (text and plates), folio (405 x 240mm.) Engraved folding map bound as frontispiece to vol. I, 243 engravings mounted on 175pp. (some hand-coloured), 2 mounted ink and wash drawings titled 'The Old House at Field Place…' and 'The New House…'. (Map trimmed and mounted, title torn with slight loss and repaired, some light damp-staining to margins, leaf R9 torn, a few leaves repaired.) 20th Century half-morocco, spine gilt (extremities slightly scuffed, spines slightly faded, endpapers replaced). Note: the majority of the plate volume is made up of extra-illustrations, however all the illustrations for 'A New History of Gloucestershire' are present with the exception of the sections of Penpark Hole. Provenance: Richard Cooke (?compiler, gifted to:); James Tyers (presentation inscription to title-page); Clifton Schools Library (bookplate to front pastedowns).
