A Japanese cloisonné enamel jar and cover, Meiji period, possibly from the Namikawa Studio, the swollen octagonal body finely worked with eight blue ground panels filled with different birds amongst flowers and blossom, the pale brown borders filled with vari-coloured foliate mon and silver wire scrolling tendrils, on four short feet, unsigned, height approx 23cm (some faults and repairs). Note: this jar and cover is accompanied by a handwritten note inscribed 'The cloisonné vase gained the national prize in 1890, it was fired 14 June and has no flaw, no crack in it', dated 3/3/37.
