LOT 2671
An Elizabethan cast iron fireback, dated 1588, the rectangular panel with an arched top, cast in relief with two anchors, fleurs-de-lys and medallions flanked by grape vines, height approx 85cm, width approx 104cm. Provenance: removed from Bekesbourne Old Palace, near Canterbury, built for Archbishop Cranmer in 1552 and more recently the home of Ian Fleming. Lot 859, Sotheby's Oak Furniture sale, 12th November 1991.
