A group of four First World War awards to James Roland West, comprising Military Cross, George V issue, 1914-15 Star to '2365, Pte. J.R. West. Berks. Yeo.', 1914-18 British War Medal and 1914-19 Victory Medal to 'Capt. J.R. West.', mounted on a bar as worn, with the four corresponding dress miniature medals (James West died on 13th April 1942, aged 47, when serving as a Captain in the 5th Dorset Battalion Home Guard, as a result of 'misadventure' when shot and killed during a flying demonstration), together with a 'Copy inquisition taken on view of the body of James Roland West', copy witness statements taken at the inquest subsequent to the event, in which twenty-seven officers and men were accidentally killed during a flying demonstration at Imber on 13th April 1942, a military identity card with photograph, a photograph, a Christmas card dated 1938, an In Memoriam poem cut from a newspaper, the ribbon from a Defence Medal and a red chevron textile badge.
