A Japanese Satsuma earthenware jar and cover by Ryokuzan, Meiji period, of cube form with concave canted corners, the four rectangular side panels filled with scenes of bijin and children on a terrace, bijin and children beside a pavilion, a coastal landscape, and cranes perched in branches in a coastal landscape, the borders and dome cover painted with polychrome chrysanthemum and simulated brocade, iron red and gilt Shimazu mon and signature to base, height approx 20.5cm (minor faults to cover).
