FORE-EDGE PAINTING. - Sir Walter SCOTT. The Poetical Works. Edinburgh: Gall and Inglis, [n.d. but circa 1850.] 8vo (165 x 105mm.) Engraved additional decorative title, occasional plates. (Occasional spotting.) Contemporary red morocco elaborately tooled in gilt, possibly to a design by John Leighton, the covers with a central cartouche of a lyre amongst stars and above the initials 'J.L.' contained within fillet borders, the spine gilt in six compartments with raised bands, lettered in the second, the others with repeat decoration in gilt, g.e. with a watercolour fore-edge painting of Sir Walter Scott before Edinburgh Castle (spine slightly darkened, minor restorations).
