LOT 303
An Arts and Crafts silver mustard, circa 1900, designed by Charles Robert Ashbee, the domed hinge lid with upright thumbpiece, the spreading body pierced with stylized branches and berries, above seven oval chrysoprase cabochons, unmarked, fitted with a blue glass liner, height approx 9cm (hinge pin missing). Provenance: Arthur Currer Briggs (1855-1906), Mayor of the City of Leeds (1903-04) and Alderman of the City of Leeds (1904-06), thence by direct family descent to the present owner. Note: a memorial to Arthur Currer Briggs, designed by Sir William Hamo Thornycroft, was erected in Lawnswood Cemetery, Leeds, in 1908 and is now a Grade II listed structure.
